IBM SmartCloud

IBM CloudWhen you think cloud, Big Blue should be one of the 1st companies to come to mind. Marketed under the name IBM SmartCloud, their cloud portfolio includes product infrastructure, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) offered through public, private and hybrid could delivery models. In the last few years, IBM has invested over $7 billion into 17 acquisitions to accelerate its cloud portfolio. Recently, IBM committed over $1.2B to add 15 new data centers to the 13 it acquired through the SoftLayer purchase. IBM’s goal is to deliver cloud services around the globe from over 40 data centers in 15 countries.


 

#1: IBM SmartCloud  – Makuhari, Japan

IBM DC JapanThe 6th of IBM Cloud Data Centers and 1st in Japan, the Makuhari facility delivers SmartCloud enterprise-class services, which include secure managed services that run workloads across several delivery methods, both public and private.

#2: IBM SmartCloud  – Singapore

IBM DC Singapore

Housing over 16,000 servers, IBM invested over $38M to build the Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Centre in Singapore. the new data center will make available IBM’s comprehensive cloud services and technology portfolio via the company’s cloud delivery infrastructure.

#3: IBM SmartCloud – Hong Kong

The Hong Kong data center is a part of IBM’s $1.2 billion dollar investment to strengthen their cloud services in Asia and around the world. 15,000 will be able to fit in the Hong Kong data center that uses the SoftLayer network architecture. Adding to the existing Asian cloud footprint this new data center will improve connectivity provided by multiple Tier-1 network carriers, customers and end users receive redundant network protection, high-speed throughput, and a connection to SoftLayer services with less than 40 milliseconds of latency.

#4: IBM Federal SmartCloud – Dallas

Also part of IBM’s $1.2 billion dollar cloud investment, the Dallas data center was built to meet U.S. Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program and Federal Information Security Management Act requirements. The center has an initial capacity of 30,000 servers and will be a part of a private network with 2,000 gigabytes of connectivity per second.

#5: IBM SmartCloud – Ehningen

IBM’s facility located in Germany was opened as a new SmartCloud data center that will support customers such as Arnold Clark, Codorniu, Shanks, Centrax TCL, and Development Alternatives Inc.

#6: IBM SmartCloud – Bogota

IBM invested $17 million in their Bogota data center which was opened in June of 2014. This facility will provide security, backup, storage, continuity and transition services to Colombian companies in the banking, finance, small business, healthcare, food service and construction sectors. This is IBM’s fourth and most advanced data center in big data and cloud services to be built in Colombia.

#7: IBM SmartCloud – Beijing

IBM opened their Beijing facility as a dedicated System Z Linux and cloud competency center. This center will provide guidance to students and companies on cloud-based solutions built on the mainframe platform.
