These data centers host an astounding amount of information used for telecommunications, cloud computing, and financial firms. EMEA consists of many impressive facilities, however similar to the Americas, they are far behind APAC in regards to square footage per facility. 

 


 

#1: Portugal Telecom- Covhila, Portugal

800,000 square feet

Notching the #1 spot in the EMEA data centers, Portugal Telecom’s complex which spans a total of 800,000 square feet houses six data halls that each offer 56,000 square feet of technical space designed to operate at a power usage effectiveness of 1.25.

750,000 square feet

Our runner up for the list in the EMEA the Next Generation data center in Newport Wales spans a total of 750,000 square feet site housing a three-story data center facility that will feature more than 375,000 square feet of technical space, enough capacity for more than 19,000 cabinets of servers and storage.

550,000 square feet

Microsoft’s new Dublin data center engulfs a total of 550,000 square feet will power much of Microsoft’s global cloud computing operation in Europe. The design innovations driving its efficiency include a “free cooling” system that uses outside air to cool the data center, and a server pod design that employs hot aisle containment to support warmer operating temperatures inside the server space.

290,000 square feet

Facebook’s Lulea, Sweden data center takes advantage of hydroelectricity to power the facility. This facility uses up to 120 megawatts of power to run its 290,000 square feet. Its massive cooling system filters and cools the air inside the server farm and expels it upwards where it is released.

226,000 square feet

Jumping in at the 4th spot on the list the Equinix LD5 data center located in London ranges a total of 226,000 square feet upon its final stage of completion. The LD5 adds to Equinix’s already established LD4 data center in London and gives customers access to more than 40 carriers providing network services and fiber routes into Central London.
